ABSTRACT. Selection practices are maximized when plant breeders have the availability of consolidated parameters, which will guide direct and indirect selection methods. This study aimed to apply a biometric alternative to minimize residual variance and maximize selection parameters by parent-progeny regression, interim controls, and mixed linear models intrinsic to breeding. The obtained data were subjected to the assumptions of the statistical model, which identified the normality and homogeneity of the residual variances and model additivity. Subsequently, two analysis scenarios were created. The first preserved all information obtained in the experiment, both from segregating families and pure-line cultivars, and was called original scenario. The other scenario preserved progeny data, but the residual variability of controls was restricted using as criterion observations contained between the interval of the first sample standard deviation. Thereby, an acceptable residue limit could be obtained. Both scenarios were submitted to three consolidated frequentist methods (genitor-progeny regression; sum of squares of augmented block design with interim controls; and mixed linear models, wherein random genetic effects are taken as weighted genetic parameters by the genealogical matrix). Restricting residual variation in parents or controls can maximize genetic parameters and genetic gains in soybean breeding. Significant heritability estimate gains were obtained in the augmented blocks with interim control approach. Mixed linear models with random genetic effects can be considered a great tool to obtain genetic parameters in experiments with a high magnitude of common and regular treatments.

ABSTRACT: This research determined the adaptability and stability of soybean yield for organic systems in different environments. Grain yield data (GY, kg ha-1) from experiments with six soybean genotypes evaluated in six environments in Brazil and one environment in Paraguay were used. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, organized in an incomplete factorial scheme, with six environments in Brazil (Toledo- PR, Palotina- PR, Mangueirinha- PR, Três Passos- RS, Passo Fundo- RS, Major Vieira- SC) and one in Paraguay (Bela Vista do Norte- PY) with six soybean genotypes (BRS 284, BRS 391, BRS 511, BRS 523, BRS 525, BRS 535) arranged in four replications per environment. BRS 511 genotype was characterized by high average grain yield and stability by the AMMI method. BRS 284 genotype was identified as the ideal genotype in the GGE biplot method. WAASBY and BLUP index selected BRS511 and BRS284 genotypes.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a adaptabilidade e estabilidade da produtividade da soja para sistemas orgânicos em diferentes ambientes. Foram utilizados dados de produtividade de grãos (GY, kg ha-1) de experimentos com seis genótipos de soja avaliados em seis ambientes no Brasil e um ambiente no Paraguai. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi blocos casualizados, organizados em esquema fatorial incompleto, com seis ambientes no Brasil (Toledo - PR, Palotina - PR, Mangueirinha - PR, Três Passos - RS, Passo Fundo - RS, Major Vieira - SC) e um no Paraguai (Bela Vista do Norte - PY) com seis genótipos de soja (BRS 284, BRS 391, BRS 511, BRS 523, BRS 525, BRS 535) dispostos em quatro repetições por ambiente. O genótipo BRS 511 foi caracterizado por alta produtividade média de grãos e estabilidade pelo método AMMI. O genótipo BRS 284 foi identificado como o genótipo ideal pelo método GGE biplot. Os índices WAASBY e BLUP selecionaram os genótipos BRS511 e BRS284.

Abstract The flax cultivar CISJU21, developed by the crop breeding program of the UNIJUÍ, was the result of selection for plants with early flowering, a shorter cycle, greater capsule diameter, optimized weight and higher number of grains per plant, with high yield stability and grain yield in the tested scenarios.

Abstract The objective of this work was to select wheat genotypes aiming to increase the essential amino acids in their grains. The study was carried out in the 2019 crop year, in a randomized complete block design, organized in a 5x5 factorial arrangement – five environments in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil (Cachoeira do Sul, Cruz Alta, Santo Augusto, São Gabriel, and Vacaria), and five wheat genotypes ('BRS Parrudo', 'Marfim', 'Quartzo', 'TBIO Mestre', and 'TBIO Sinuelo') –, with two replicates. Polar metabolites were extracted from the flour of the ground wheat grains, derivatized, and evaluated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Both variance components and genetic parameters were estimated for the metabolites. To select the genotypes for the traits of interest, the multi-trait index based on factor analysis and ideotype design, the multi-trait genotype-ideotype distance index, and the multi-trait stability index were applied. The wheat genotypes express a high genetic variability and selection possibility for gentiobiose, butyric acid, galactopyranosyl, phenylalanine, tryptophan, leucine, and isoleucine. The 'Marfim' genotype remains stable for essential amino acid levels in the studied environments. The 'Quartzo' genotype stands out in the expression of leucine, isoleucine, phenylalanine, and tryptophan in its grains.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar genótipos de trigo com vista ao aumento de aminoácidos essenciais nos seus grãos. O estudo foi realizado no ano agrícola de 2019, em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, organizados em arranjo fatorial 5x5 – cinco ambientes no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil (Cachoeira do Sul, Cruz Alta, Santo Augusto, São Gabriel e Vacaria), e cinco genótipos de trigo ('BRS Parrudo', 'Marfim', 'Quartzo', 'TBIO Mestre' e 'TBIO Sinuelo') –, com duas repetições. Os metabólitos polares foram extraídos da farinha dos grãos de trigo moídos, derivatizados e avaliados por cromatografia gasosa-espectrometria de massa. Tanto os componentes de variância como os parâmetros genéticos foram estimados para os metabólitos. Para selecionar os genótipos para as características de interesse, aplicaram-se o índice multicaracterística baseado em análise fatorial e desenho de ideótipos, o índice de distância genótipo-ideótipo multicaracterística e o índice de estabilidade multicaracterística. Os genótipos de trigo expressam alta variabilidade genética e possibilidade de seleção para gentiobiose, ácido butírico, galactopiranosil, fenilalanina, triptofano, leucina e isoleucina. O genótipo 'Marfim' mantém-se estável para os níveis de aminoácidos essenciais nos ambientes estudados. O genótipo 'Quartzo' se destaca na expressão de leucina, isoleucina, fenilalanina e triptofano em seus grãos.

Abstract The objective of this work was to select white oat (Avena sativa) genotypes for environments with and without fungicide application, as well as to identify relationships between meteorological variables and agronomic traits. Two experiments were carried out: one without and the other with the use of the tebuconazole fungicide. In each experiment, 26 genotypes were evaluated, conducted during ten years in the same experimental area; cultivation years were considered as one environment. The methodologies of genotype and of the genotypes x environments interaction were used to define the ideal genotype. 'URS Corona' is considered an ideal genotype due to its excellent responses in the environment with tebuconazole. The 'Brisasul', 'IPR Aphrodite', and 'URS Taura' genotypes respond better in the environment without the fungicide. However, based on multitraits, the 'URS Taura' and 'IPR Afrodite' genotypes can be positioned in environments with or without the use of tebuconazole. Genotypes with a rust incidence lower than 15% and a height higher than 93 cm in an environment with a relative humidity lower than 70.75% have a higher grain yield regardless of fungicide use. Greater magnitudes of air temperature and solar radiation result in a higher grain yield of white oat, regardless of fungicide use.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi selecionar genótipos de aveia-branca (Avena sativa) para ambientes com e sem aplicação de fungicidas, bem como identificar relações entre variáveis meteorológicas e características agronômicas. Dois experimentos foram conduzidos: um sem e outro com o uso do fungicida tebuconazole. Em cada experimento, foram avaliados 26 genótipos, conduzidos durante dez anos na mesma área experimental; os anos de cultivo foram considerados como um ambiente. As metodologias de genótipos e da interação genótipos x ambientes foram utilizadas para definir o genótipo ideal. 'URS Corona' é considerado um genótipo ideal devida às suas ótimas respostas em ambiente com uso de tebuconazole. Já os genótipos 'Brisasul', 'IPR Afrodite' e 'URS Taura' respondem melhor em ambiente sem o fungicida. Contudo, com base em multicaracterísticas, os genótipos 'URS Taura' e 'IPR Afrodite' podem ser posicionados em ambientes com ou sem o uso de tebuconazole. Genótipos com incidência de ferrugem menor que 15% e altura maior que 93 cm, em ambiente com umidade relativa menor que 70,75%, apresentam maior produtividade de grãos independentemente do uso de fungicida. Maiores magnitudes de temperatura do ar e radiação solar resultam em maior produtividade de grãos de aveia-branca, independentemente do uso de fungicida.

Abstract The objective of this work was to determine the genetic correlations and the direct and indirect associations of agronomic traits and grain quality attributes with the percentage of whole grains in flood irrigated rice. The experiment was carried out in two environments, in a randomized complete block design with three replicates, using 23 irrigated rice genotypes. The evaluated traits were: percentage of whole grains, caryopsis length, caryopsis width, panicle length, panicle weight, 1,000 grain weight, days to flowering, percentage of chalky grains with white belly, total chalky area, total whiteness, vitreous whiteness, and defects in coloring. The percentage of grains with white belly and total chalky area were positively correlated, whereas the percentage of grains with white belly and vitreous whiteness were negatively correlated. The traits caryopsis width, percentage of chalky grains with white belly, panicle weight, and 1,000 grain weight showed indirect effects on whole-grain yield response according to total chalky area and total whiteness. Total chalky area and total whiteness are the factors that most negatively influence the percentage of whole grains according to the genotypic correlations and direct effects.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar as correlações genéticas e as associações diretas e indiretas de caracteres agronômicos e atributos de qualidade de grãos com a percentagem de grãos inteiros em arroz irrigado por inundação. O experimento foi conduzido em dois ambientes, em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com três repetições, tendo-se utilizado 23 genótipos de arroz irrigado. Os caracteres avaliados foram: percentagem de grãos inteiros, comprimento da cariopse, largura da cariopse, comprimento da panícula, peso da panícula, peso de mil grãos, dias para floração, percentagem de grãos com “barriga branca” e grãos gessados, área gessada total, brancura total, brancura vítrea e defeitos de coloração. A percentagem de grãos com “barriga branca” e área gessada total correlacionaram-se positivamente, enquanto a percentagem de grãos com “barriga branca” e gessada e brancura vítrea correlacionaram-se negativamente. Os caracteres largura da cariopse, percentual de grãos com “barriga branca” e gessada, peso da panícula e peso de mil grãos apresentaram efeitos indiretos sobre a resposta de rendimento de grãos inteiros de acordo com área total gessada e brancura total. Área total gessada e brancura total são os fatores que mais influenciam negativamente a percentagem de grãos inteiros de acordo com as correlações genotípicas e os efeitos diretos.

RESUMEN El objetivo de este trabajo es resaltar el comportamiento de cultivares de yuca sometidos a diferentes densidades y bioestimulantes al momento de la siembra, y seleccionar cultivares superiores a través de atributos nutricionales y productivos basado en el enfoque multivariado. Se utilizó un diseño experimental de bloques al azar de tres factores y tres repeticiones: tres cultivares de yuca (FEPAGRO-RS 13 Vassourinha, BRS CS01, Iapar - 19 Pioneira), dos densidades de plantación (10 y 20 yemas por metro lineal) y bioestimulate (con y sin), en total 36 unidades experimentales. El cultivar BRS CS01 presentó el mayor rendimiento y concentración de material mineral; el genotipo FEPAGRO - RS 13 Vassourinha presentó el mayor contenido de lípidos y ‘Iapar 19 - Pioneira’ presentó las mayores concentraciones de proteína. El contenido de almidón fue evaluado por la prueba de comparación de medias e índice MGIDI. El cultivar FEPAGRO - RS 13 Vassourinha mostró superioridad, además de ser considerado por el índice ideal por el multi-variado. La densidad 10 y bioestimulador se caracterizó como favorable para la productividad y lípidos, mientras que la densidad 10 y sin bioestimulador favorable para almidón, lípidos, proteína y productividad. La densidad 20 con bioestimulador fue favorable para lípidos.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to highlight the behavior of cassava cultivars when subjected to different densities and biostimulants at planting and to select superior cultivars based on nutritional and productive attributes using the multivariate approach. The experiment design used randomized blocks in a three-factor scheme, with three cassava cultivars (FEPAGRO-RS 13 Vassourinha, BRS CS01, Iapar - 19 Pioneira) × two planting densities (10 and 20 buds per linear meter) × two biostimulator forms (with and without) in three replications, totaling 36 experiment units. Cultivar BRS CS01 had the highest yield and concentration of mineral material, genotype FEPAGRO - RS 13 Vassourinha had the highest lipid content, and Iapar 19 - Pioneira had the highest protein concentrations. The starch content was tested with a comparison of means and MGIDI index. Cultivar FEPAGRO - RS 13 Vassourinha had the highest content and, according to the index, was the ideal cultivar based on multi-characteristics. Density 10 with the biostimulator was favorable for productivity and lipids, whereas density 10 without the biostimulator was favorable for starch, lipids, proteins and productivity. Density 20 with the biostimulator was favorable for lipids.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar um procedimento para elicitação de distribuição a priori informativa, comparada à distribuição a priori não informativa, em tamanho amostral reduzido, com uso de 14 caracteres de três genótipos de linhaça (Linum usitatissimum), em sete épocas de semeadura. Os valores dos hiperparâmetros regulam a informatividade da distribuição a priori; portanto, para cada época, foram calculados os hiperparâmetros a serem utilizados na próxima época. As duas distribuições a priori, não informativa e informativa, foram comparadas pelo comprimento dos intervalos de credibilidade e pela variância da distribuição a posteriori. Em geral, quando a distribuição a priori informativa é adotada, os parâmetros genéticos apresentam menor comprimento do intervalo de credibilidade e estimativas mais precisas. O mecanismo de elicitação a priori informativa com uso de informações prévias de programas de melhoramento é eficiente para estimativa de parâmetros genéticos, incluindo herdabilidade e variância genética, mesmo quando o tamanho da amostra é pequeno. Na avaliação genética, o uso da distribuição a priori informativa é melhor do que o da distribuição não informativa para tamanho amostral pequeno. Em geral, os resultados das distribuições a priori informativas indicam que os valores genéticos da primeira época de semeadura são maiores para os seguintes caracteres: comprimento do ciclo, altura da planta, e número de cápsulas não granuladas e de ramos produtivos.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate a procedure for the elicitation of informative prior distribution, compared with non-informative prior distribution, in a small sample size, using 14 traits of three linseed (Linum usitatissimum) genotypes in seven sowing seasons. The values of the hyperparameters regulate the informativeness of the prior distribution; therefore, for each season, the hyperparameters to be used in the next season were calculated. The two prior distributions, non-informative and informative, were compared by the length of the credible interval and variance of the posterior distribution. In general, when the informative prior distribution is adopted, the genetic parameters present a shorter length of the credible interval and more precise estimates. The mechanism for informative prior elicitation using previous information from breeding programs is efficient for the estimation of genetic parameters, including heritability and genetic variance, even when the sample size is small. In genetic evaluation, the use of informative prior distribution is better than that of non-informative distribution for a small sample size. In general, the results of the informative prior distributions are indicative that the genetic values of the first sowing season are greater for the following traits: cycle length, plant height, and number of non-grained capsules and of productive branches.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi decompor as variações da interação genótipo × ambiente por meio de modelos multivariados fixos, bem como entender as variações genéticas por meio de modelos mistos, para estimativa e predição do valor genético de genótipos de soja (Glycine max), no estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Foram realizados testes durante as safras de 2016/2017, 2017/2018 e 2018/2019, em diferentes municípios, em seis regiões do estado, com uso dos modelos de efeitos principais aditivos e interação multiplicativa (AMMI) e de efeitos principais dos genótipos + interação genótipo-ambiente (GGE). Os genótipos também foram avaliados pelo índice que permite ponderar entre estabilidade e desempenho médio (WAASBY) e pelos modelos de máxima verossimilhança restrita (REML) e de melhor predição linear não viciada (BLUP). O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso (18 ambientes x 12 genótipos), com três repetições. Os genótipos com melhor desempenho em ambientes favoráveis são: 'BMX Valente RR', 'BMX Alvo RR', 'NS 5959 IPRO', 'DM 5958RSF IPRO' e 'BMX Ativa RR'. Os ambientes favoráveis são a safra de 2017/2018 no município de Bagé e de 2016/2017 nos municípios de São Luiz Gonzaga e Cachoeira do Sul, onde obteve-se maior produtividade de grãos. Os genótipos que apresentam excelente desempenho em ambientes desfavoráveis são as cultivares BMX Ativa RR, DM 5958RSF IPRO, NS 5959 IPRO e TMG 7262 RR. A safra de 2016/2017 é considerada desfavorável nos municípios de São Luiz Gonzaga e Cachoeira do Sul. Os modelos de seleção de genótipos AMMI, GGE e WAASBY ou BLUP devem ser usados simultaneamente.

Abstract The objective of this work was to decompose the variations of the genotype × environment interaction through fixed multivariate models, as well as to understand the genetic variations through mixed models, for the estimation and prediction of the genetic value of soybean (Glycine max) genotypes in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Tests were carried out during the 2016/2017, 2017/2018, and 2018/2019 crop seasons in different municipalities in six regions of the state, using the additive main effects and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) and genotype main effects + genotype-by-environment interaction (GGE) models. The genotypes were also evaluated using an index that allows weighting between mean performance and stability (WAASBY) and by the restricted maximum likelihood (REML) and the best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) models. The used experimental design was randomized complete blocks (18 environments x 12 genotypes), with three replicates. The best performing genotypes in favorable environments are: 'BMX Valente RR', 'BMX Alvo RR', 'NS 5959 IPRO', 'DM 5958RSF IPRO', and 'BMX Ativa RR'. The favorable environments are the 2017/2018 season in the municipality of Bagé and the 2016/2017 season in the municipalities of São Luiz Gonzaga and Cachoeira do Sul, where higher grain yields were obtained. The genotypes that show excellent performance in unfavorable environments are cultivars BMX Ativa RR, DM 5958RSF IPRO, NS 5959 IPRO, and TMG 7262 RR. The 2016/2017 season is considered unfavorable in the municipalities of São Luiz Gonzaga and Cachoeira do Sul. The AMMI, GGE, and WAASBY or BLUP models for genotype selection must be used simultaneously.

Abstract UFSMFW 2202 is an early black oat cultivar with high dry matter and grain yield potential. When used in rotation systems, the early cycle has the immediate advantage of allowing anticipated sowing of subsequent crop. Initially, the cultivar is recommended for the North and Northwest of Rio Grande do Sul.

Abstract The black oat cultivar UFSMFW 2101, recommended for Northwest of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, is very early and can produce high dry matter and grain yields. In rotation systems, an immediate advantage is the very early cycle, with the possibility of anticipated sowing of the subsequent crop.

Resumo O desenvolvimento de plantas mais eficientes no uso de nutrientes será fundamental para a agricultura nos próximos anos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi definir um marcador fisiológico do status nutricional do P para clones de batata cultivados fora do solo e in vitro, visando facilitar o processo de seleção de clones mais eficientes no uso de P. Para tanto, foram realizados dois experimentos com sete clones de batata (SMIC 148-A, Dakota Rose, SMINIA 793101-3, SMIB 106-7, SMIF 212-3, SMIJ 319-1 e P 150) cultivados em dois níveis de P (baixo e alto) no sistema de cultivo in vitro (1,935 e 19,346mg P L-1) e no cultivo fora do solo (2,32 e 23,2mg P L-1) usando areia como substrato. O teor de P inorgânico e a acumulação total de P na parte aérea e nas raízes parecem ser bons indicadores da condição nutricional de P em plantas de batata, tanto no cultivo fora do solo quanto no in vitro. A atividade das enzimas fosfatases ácidas (APases) nos tecidos da batata depende muito do sistema de cultivo, do clone e do órgão da planta analisado, dificultando a escolha deste como um marcador fisiológico para restrição de P em batata. A massa seca da planta de batata pode ser um bom indicador do status nutricional do P em clones cultivados fora do solo.

Abstract The development of more efficient plants in the use of nutrients will be fundamental for agriculture in the coming years. The objective of this work was to define a physiological marker of the nutritional status of P for potato clones cultivated soilless and in vitro, in order to facilitate the selection process of more efficient clones in the use of P. For this, two experiments were carried out with seven potato clones (SMIC 148-A, Dakota Rose, SMINIA 793101-3, SMIB 106-7, SMIF 212-3, SMIJ 319-1 and P 150) grown at two levels of P (low and high) in the culture systems in vitro (1.935 and 19.346mg P L-1) and in soilless (2.32 and 23.2mg P L-1) using sand as substrate. The inorganic P content and the total accumulation of P in shoot and roots seem to be good indicators of the nutritional status of P in potato plants, both in soilless and in vitro cultivation. The activity of the acidic phosphatase enzymes (APases) in the tissues of the potato depends very much on the culture system, the clone and the organ of the analyzed plant, making it difficult to choose it as a physiological marker for restriction of P in potatoes. The dry mass of the potato plant may be a good indicator of the nutritional status of P in clones grown soilless.

ABSTRACT Cassava (Manihot esculenta) has high phenotypic plasticity, acclimatization, broad adaptability, and resilience under adverse edaphoclimatic conditions. This systematic review aimed to identify factors that determined cassava production in Brazil during the last three decades and direct perspectives for this crop in Colombia. The methodology was based on studies that integrated academic information from different situations (1990-2020), environments, states, groups of researchers and existing scientific evidence. Based on the information, a binary matrix of information was assembled based on the following characteristics: plant density per hectare, soil type, city, state, average air temperature, planting line spacing, plant spacing on the planting line, implantation date, implantation station, harvesting station, productivity per hectare, days for harvest, liming, fertilization, precipitation and climate. During the last 30 years, the productivity of cassava in Brazil has increased, mainly in low-income populations and rural populations. There are prospects for increasing cassava production for fresh sale and industries. This crop is characterized as rustic, highly adaptive, tolerant of water stress and acidic soils, and highly influenced by climate, rainfall, air temperature, and incident solar radiation. Productivity is determined by implantation time, liming, fertilization, density, and plant arrangement.

RESUMEN La yuca (Manihot esculenta) muestra alta plasticidad fenotípica, climática, amplia adaptabilidad y resistencia a condiciones edafoclimáticas adversas. En este contexto, esta revisión sistemática tiene como objetivo identificar cuáles fueron los factores que determinaron la producción de yuca en Brasil en las últimas tres décadas, y orientar cuáles son las posibles perspectivas del cultivo en el país. La metodología para producir esta revisión se basó en estudios que integran la información académica producida en diferentes situaciones (1990-2020), entornos, estados, grupos de investigadores y evidencia científica existente para esta temática. Con base en la información, se ensambló una matriz binaria de información basada en los siguientes caracteres: densidad de plantación por hectárea, tipo de suelo, ciudad, estado, temperatura promedio del aire, espaciado entre línea de siembra, espaciado entre planta en la línea de siembra, fecha de siembra, estación de siembra, estación de cosecha, productividad por hectárea, días de cosecha, encalado, fertilización, precipitación y clima. Es evidente que en los últimos 30 años se a incrementado la productividad de la yuca en Brasil, principalmente en poblaciones de bajos ingresos y ubicadas en áreas rurales. Hay perspectivas de aumentar la producción de yuca para la venta fresca y la industria. El cultivo se caracteriza por ser rústico, altamente adaptativo, tolerante al estrés hídrico y suelos ácidos, siendo altamente influenciado por el clima, las precipitaciones, la temperatura del aire y la radiación solar incidente. La productividad está determinada por el momento de la siembra, encalado, fertilización, densidad y disposición de la planta.

RESUMO: A diferenciação do crescimento e desenvolvimento das plântulas, é resultado do nível de vigor do lote das sementes. Em virtude disto, conhecer a curva de crescimento das plântulas é fundamental para que a avaliação do teste de comprimento de plântulas, seja realizada no momento em que realmente se manifestem as eventuais diferenças de vigor, podendo assim reduzir o tempo de avaliação do teste. No trabalho, o objetivo foi determinar o intervalo de tempo mais eficiente para realizar o teste de comprimento de plântula em sementes de soja, em função dos níveis de vigor. As características avaliadas foram germinação, primeira contagem de germinação, emergência, dias para emergência, comprimento de parte aérea, raiz e total (avaliados de 12 em 12 horas), massa seca de parte aérea, raiz e total em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. As sementes de alto vigor originaram plântulas com maiores taxas de crescimento (cm. h-1), sendo o vigor um dos fatores que interfere no teste de comprimento de plântulas. Após 96 horas do teste de comprimento de plântula ocorreu a diferenciação estatística entre os três níveis de vigor testados. O teste de comprimento de plântula de soja entre lotes, com vigor distinto, pode ser realizado 96 horas após a semeadura.

ABSTRACT: The differentiation of seedling growth and development is the result of the vigor level of the seed lot. Because of this, knowing the seedling growth curve is essential for the evaluation of the seedling length test, to be carried out at the moment when any differences in vigor really manifest, thus being able to reduce the time of evaluation of the test. In this research, the objective was to determine the most efficient time interval to perform the seedling length test in soybean seeds, depending on the vigor levels. The evaluated characteristics were percentage of seed germination, first germination count, emergency, days for emergence, aerial, root and total length (evaluated every 12 hours), aerial, root and total dry mass in completely randomized design. High vigor seeds originated seedlings with higher growth rates (cm. h-1), with vigor being one of the factors that interfere in the seedling length test. After 96 hours of the seedling length test, there was a statistical differentiation between the three vigor levels tested. The soybean seedling length test between lots, with different vigor, can be performed 96 hours after sowing.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar componentes de variâncias e herdabilidades, estimar o ganho de seleção e avaliar as diferentes pressões de seleção para atributos físicos de qualidade de grãos de famílias de gerações segregantes de arroz (Oryza sativa) irrigado, por meio da metodologia REML/BLUP. O experimento foi conduzido no Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, onde foram realizadas seleções nas gerações segregantes F3, F4 e F5, nas safras 2015/2016, 2016/2017 e 2017/2018, em oito populações segregantes (famílias) oriundas de diferentes cruzamentos. Foram avaliados atributos físicos de qualidade intrínsecos, parâmetros genéticos e resposta à seleção, tendo-se utilizado diferentes pressões de seleção. Foram obtidas estimativas que apresentaram ganhos genéticos para os caracteres de qualidade dos grãos, principalmente para área calcárea total, alvura vítrea, alvura total, relação entre alvura vítrea e alvura total, e percentual de grãos inteiros e quebrados, em seleções nas primeiras gerações. As famílias utilizadas apresentam resultados satisfatórios, sendo superiores às cultivares-controle. Para a maioria dos caracteres, as estimativas de herdabilidade em sentido amplo são consideradas intermediárias, junto com os demais parâmetros, o que mostra a possibilidade de seleção genética para os atributos de qualidade do grão. A resposta à seleção com pressão de 10% é muito promissora para os atributos de qualidade de grãos de arroz.

Abstract The objective of this work was to analyze components of variances and heritabilities, estimate selection gain, and evaluate the different selection pressures for physical quality attributes of grains of families of segregating generations of irrigated rice (Oryza sativa), through the REML/BLUP methodology. The experiment was conducted in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where selections were made in the F3, F4, and F5 segregating generations, in the 2015/2016, 2016/2017, and 2017/2018 crop seasons, in eight segregating populations (families) from different crosses. Intrinsic physical quality attributes, genetic parameters, and response to selection were evaluated using different selection pressures. The obtained estimates showed genetic gains for the characters related to grain quality, mainly for total chalky area, vitreous whiteness, total whiteness, ratio between vitreous whiteness and total whiteness, and percentage of whole grains and broken grains, in selections in early generations. The used families show satisfactory results, being superior to the control cultivars. For most characters, the estimates of broad-sense heritability are considered intermediate, together with the other parameters, showing the possibility of genetic selection for grain quality attributes. The response to selection with a pressure of 10% is very promising for rice grain quality attributes.
